The primary objective of the group is to explore the reasons you developed panic in the first place and the personality features that can keep you vulnerable to outbreaks. Discover your personal triggers for panic, the events and feelings that lead to repeated episodes of anxiety and those that spark individual attacks. The aim of this course if to facilitate you in developing skills to cope with your anxiety and lean through self talk, to conquer the catastrophic thinking that fuels panic / anxiety.

Course outline:

Week 1

  • What is anxiety?
  • Psychiological factors
  • Human nature (“fight or flight”)

Week 2

  • Triggers: what are they?
  • How to recognize your triggers
  • Stress reactions
  • How common is the problem?
  • What is the solution?

Week 3

  • Different types of stressers / anxiety
  • Theoretical perspective (CBT / TA / Reality Therapy / Choice Therapy)
  • Self talk

Week 4

  • The role of the self in anxiety
  • “Responsibility” – (who / what are we taking responsibility for)

Week 5

  • Coping skills
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Panic attacks

Week 6

  • Shared experiences
  • Feedback
